Nick Vent retired from the County of San Diego, Environmental Health Department, Hazardous Materials Division (HMD). He managed the County of San Diego’s Hazardous Incident Response Team (HIRT), which responds to all hazardous chemical releases since 1986. Mr. Vent is an award winning, state certified hazardous materials response instructor with 35 plus years’ experience training and certifying fire, law enforcement, and environmental professionals who respond to chemical emergencies. He has also taught various environmental health courses at several colleges in California and conferences around the country and internationally.

Mr. Vent started his career as a laboratory chemist in 1974 for 10 years, managed an environmental cleanup firm and TSDF in the San Diego region for 3 years. He worked for the County of San Diego for 28 years. He holds a degree in Environmental and Occupational Health.
